A DEA would:
- Inspect properties to collect information on their age, number of storeys, building type, heating and hot water systems
- Take note of the number and size of corridors, windows and fireplaces
- Enter the information into a computer software programme, which will produce an energy efficiency rating and an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
- Explain efficiency ratings to homeowners
- Outline generated recommendations for improvements to the energy efficiency of their homes
In general and depending on the complexity of the property, an EPC would take from 30 - 60 minutes to complete.
Domestic Energy Assessors are regulated by Government approved Accreditation Centres that monitor performance, conduct, insurance and continued learning and development.
